Following their successful Virtual Kilometre of Coins fundraiser, Dumfries Lions recently presented £2000 to The Usual Place community café (TUP). A further £2000 has also been presented to Nith Inshore Rescue. The KmOC fundraiser was started on Facebook with Just Giving and that raised several hundred pounds, but the rest was generously gifted by the public through raffle tickets sales and donations. The Lions are indebted to the public for supporting them and to local firms Mylar Speciality Films, Jardine Funeral Directors, Layden Memorials, Marks & Spencer and BB Body Repairs who all generously stepped in with sponsorship and donations to help with the project. The total sum raised was initially about £3,000 and thanks to the generosity of the public response, the Lions were able to donate £2,000 to each of the two causes.
