Congratulations to Leigha, Gabby and Kaylah who have completed their 6 week programme of work experience here at The Usual Place in collaboration with Dumfries High School.

During that time they have gained experience and worked with Mentors in many different aspects of hospitality services including baking, serving customers, preparing drinks and cakes, washing dishes, laundry, taking orders in the shop and cafe counter, cleaning, team work.

David was very happy to present Leigha, Gabby and Kaylah with certificates to mark their achievements.

Our 6 weeks DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) programme is open to all schools.

A programme for S3 pupils, not necessarily with ASN to develop employability skills in a supportive, inclusive team environment.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Groups of three S3 pupils, 3 hours per week, over a 6-week block.

Up to 12 pupils per school per year (4 blocks).

Open to all schools—currently partnered with Dumfries High School.

WHAT STUDENTS GAIN:

Confidence and communication skills.

Experience in a real working environment.

Insight into the value of teamwork in a diverse setting.
